Frequently Asked Questions

CAN MEMBERS BOOK THE FACILITIES WITHOUT ATTENDING SCHEDULED EVENTS?

Our organization exists to promote competitive and organized shooting activities, and therefore periodic attendance at scheduled events is expected to maintain membership. As a result, NSRA is not supportive of memberships simply for the purpose of practicing alone or satisfying the requirement to acquire a restricted firearm. NSRA has a vetting process to grant access to Bull Meadow range outside of scheduled program times, with all use (Section and non-program) scheduled and coordinated in advance. The majority of NSRA members do not have a range key or the ability to book the range. The vetting process involves a request being submitted through a Section Chairperson and: a) the member being in good standing, b) the member shooting with 1 or more sections for at least 1 shooting season, and c) the Section Chairperson supporting their request. All applications are reviewed by the Board and require their support prior to any approval.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SCHEDULED EVENTS IN THE WINTER SINCE YOUR RANGE IS OUTDOORS?

The range is open in the wintertime so long as the access road(s) and ranges can be maintained. Periodically practices are held primarily with the Handgun Section.

DO YOU HAVE MANY SCHEDULED EVENTS IN THE SPRING, SUMMER AND FALL SEASONS?

We offer a robust schedule of weeknight and weekend activities for all our disciplines, where an Association Range Officer will be present to run the planned program for the day/evening. Our “Events” page is periodically updated with upcoming Section events.

DO YOU OFFER TRIAL MEMBERSHIPS?

NSRA does not offer trial memberships; however, persons who are interested in possibly joining the association can attend up to 3 practices before making their decision to join or not. The limit on attending 3 practices as a guest is an insurance requirement.

CAN I ATTEND A FEW EVENTS BEFORE JOINING?

Yes, we encourage all prospective members to come out to the range to view the facilities and meet the Section Chairs and other members during a practice. You can attend up to 3 practices before making your decision to join. This limit is due to an insurance requirement.

CAN I BRING GUESTS TO SCHEDULED EVENTS/PERSONAL RANGE BOOKINGS?

Guests are welcome to attend up to 3 practices/events. This limit is due to an insurance requirement.

CAN MY FRIEND USE MY MEMBERSHIP?

An individual’s membership is only for them and cannot be transferred or used by anyone else.

HOW LARGE A MEMBERSHIP DOES NSRA HAVE?

At this time we have approximately 200 junior and senior members.

WHY DOES NSRA EXIST?

To promote organized and competitive shooting.

DO YOU OFFER RANGE SAFETY OFFICER TRAINING?

The Association offers Range Safety Officer training to members who have demonstrated an interest in taking on those duties. To get on the course requires the shooter to be familiar with one or more of the Association’s disciplines, and the support of a Section Chairman. We typically recommend new members to join in 1 or more section activities, get familiar with the activities and our facility/range operations, and then consider completing a future RSO course and taking on those duties.

DOES NSRA HAVE AN INDOOR RANGE?

No, only the outdoor facility at Bull Meadow.
